Welcome toThe Natural Momma Me Initiative!

Why Diapers?

The Natural Momma Me Initiative was founded after Aisha Young read an article about diaper need on CNN.com. After reading about how impoverished mothers were reusing diapers due to limited resources, that diapers were not covered under assistance programs and that potentially 12,000 children in Wayne County alone needed diapers, she knew she had to act to prevent this ‘silent crisis.’ In September 2011, The Natural Momma Me Initiative Cloth Diaper Bank, which later added disposable diapers as an option, became Wayne County’s only cloth diaper-focused organization and subsequently, a member of the rapidly expanding National Diaper Bank Network. Since then, The Natural Momma Me Initiative has been distributing diapers to babies and children in the Greater Detroit Area.

The Natural Momma Me Initiative is a non-profit organization catering to the needs of mom and baby. We provide diapers, both cloth and disposable, to low income families. Our goal is to increase the health, wellness, security and independence of the diverse populations served. Additionally, we provide referrals to affordable care services and environmentally friendly resources which includes, but is not limited to, cloth diaper education, midwifery and doula care, lactation services, baby-wearing classes, maternal nutrition, and childbirth education classes.
